Public invited to Sunnyside Park Open House for input on improvements

Salt Lake City Public Lands invites residents and park users to an open house from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, September 18, at the Pavilion at Sunnyside Park (1735 Sunnyside Ave S, Salt Lake City, UT 84108). Attendees can chat with project team members and provide input and ideas to help inform how to invest funds from the GO Bond and funding from the University of Utah at Sunnyside Park.

In November 2022, Salt Lake City voters approved an $85 million Parks, Trails, and Open Space General Obligation Bond. Part of the Bond's funding will be used to Reimagine Neighborhood Parks in the City's seven City Council Districts to help reflect the communities' desires and needs through park improvements.

In addition to the funds provided through the Bond, the University of Utah has provided $4.2 million in funding. Community collaboration and engagement will determine improvements from both funding sources, which will inform future park designs.

"We believe this will be a unique opportunity for those that use Sunnyside Park to help shape the future of this amazing park that will have a positive impact on the community for decades to come," said Kira Johnson, the Reimagine Sunnyside Park Project Manager in Salt Lake City Public Lands.

Sunnyside Park is a beloved community park frequently visited by local schools, neighbors, and sports leagues. This funding will help to make this community asset even better and more useful for a broader cross-section of Salt Lake residents.
