Marquette undergraduate students returned to campus beginning on Wednesday, Aug. 21, taking part in a variety of events to kick off the 2024-25 academic year. As the first week of classes comes to an end, take a look back at all our campus community has already done through the lens of photographer Patrick Manning.

Nearly 2,150 first-year undergraduate students from 40 states, Washington D.C., two U.S. territories and 12 countries began moving into Marquette residence halls on Aug. 21.

The first evening of Orientation began with the Family Liturgy in a packed Church of the Gesu.

Following the Family Liturgy, the Class of 2028 and their families gathered in the Al McGuire Center for New Student Convocation, the formal welcome to campus.Students shared an emotional goodbye with their parents at the end of the first night of Orientation.A dedicated team of Orientation leaders helped welcome the Class of 2028 to campus.

Students packed the stands for men's soccer's matchup with Drexel as part of Orientation festivities.

The Chapel of the Holy Family renovation was unveiled to a full congregation of over 125 faculty, students and staff during Sunday night's candlelight Mass. The new space features improved lighting, multiple windows along Wisconsin Avenue, a skylight and new sound system. New carpeting has additionally been installed outside the Chapel in the narthex.Acting President and Provost Kimo Ah Yun, basketball coaches Cara Consuegra and Shaka Smart, and Iggy handed out free breakfasts to students at Sendik's Fresh2Go on the first day of classes.

Even Blue, Marquette University Police Department's community support dog, got in on the fun!On the first day of classes, the Lemonis Center for Student Success officially opened its doors to students, contributing to Marquette's student success strategy of building a culture of mentorship and engagement "from first day to first destination."The first day of classes also brought the opening of the reimagined David A. Straz, Jr., Hall, the new home of the College of Nursing. The building underwent a radical transformation after serving as home to Marquette Business since its initial construction in 1951.Students were energetic as classes kicked off, enjoying time outside and quickly focusing on their studies.
