Meet Pullen Park’s Newest Residents

When you walk into Pullen Park these days, it's more like a nice stroll through a magical wildlife sanctuary. A new walkway is lined with nearly a dozen squirrels, birds, and more!

"Knowing that Pullen Park is a historic part of the City of Raleigh, we realized a few years back that our trees can tell a lot of that story," said Scott Mott, Pullen Park Director. "This new feature is a stunning enhancement to the entrance of our park. Each day we see over 100 families choosing to walk down the path and explore that artwork."

The wood carvings were made from a white oak tree in Pullen Park that had to come down last year. And if the woodsy creatures look familiar, it might be because they were created by chainsaw artist Corey Lancaster, the same artist who carved Berkeley the squirrel in Nash Park.

"It's humbling to think that these trees planted by someone in our roles over 75 years ago are now being repurposed in a beautiful way, rather than just being removed," said Mott.
