NOPD Arrests Suspect in Fifth District Homicide

The NOPD has arrested Kerry Shelby (Black male, DOB: 11-5-1986), in connection with a homicide by shooting that occurred on April 21, 2024 in the 6000 block of St. Claude Avenue.

At about 1:07p.m., NOPD Fifth District officers were called to an unknown incident at the location. Upon arrival they discovered the victim unresponsive in alley. EMS arrived on scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

The Orleans Parish Coroner later identified the victim as Roderick Thomas, DOB: 2-2-1985.

Through investigation, detectives identified Kerry Shelby as the perpetrator in this incident and issued a warrant for his arrest on charges of second degree murder. Shelby was arrested today (May 7, 2024) without incident and booked accordingly into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
