Festive meals will be available again to anyone who needs them, thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers who will prepare and deliver meals on Christmas Day.
Last year, 115 people enjoyed turkey dinners and a dessert cooked in the kitchen at Sound Primary School. School catering staff, led by head cook Alison Beattie and assistant cook Brenda Moar, volunteered their time to cook the meals, with food supplies generously donated by local businesses.
Volunteer drivers delivered the hot meals to around fifty homes in Lerwick and Scalloway, and Christmas dinner was also provided for over thirty people through local church group Food for the Way.
The successful Festive initiative will continue again this year and a call is being made to pass on details of anyone who may benefit from a hot meal on Christmas Day. Names and details are being taken during November, to help with planning for the quantities and preparation needed.
Anyone who may know of someone who may need a hot meal on Christmas Day is asked to call 01595 744000 and pass on their details, before Monday 9th December.
Councillor Davie Sandison, Chair of the Council's Education and Families Committee said - "I'd like to thank everyone who volunteered their time and supported this last year in this welcome Festive gesture, which meant that many people enjoyed a hot Christmas meal who may not otherwise have been able to. I'm pleased that this will continue again this year and would ask that if you know of someone who may be in need this year, please do get in touch and pass on their details."
