Georgia Urology Launches Aquablation Program at Piedmont Rockdale

Georgia Urology is proud to announce the successful launch of the Aquablation therapy program for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) at Piedmont Rockdale Hospital under the leadership of Dr. Michael Kemper. Since its introduction in July 2024, the innovative, non-thermal treatment has been performed on over 20 patients, offering cutting-edge care for enlarged prostates in the Conyers area.

Aquablation's Precision and Robotics

Aquablation is a unique waterjet-based therapy designed to treat even the most challenging cases of BPH, including very large prostates exceeding 80 grams. Utilizing advanced robotic technology, Aquablation allows for the precise removal of excess prostate tissue without the use of heat, offering a highly targeted and uniform treatment while minimizing several potential concerns like retrograde ejaculation.

"Our goal at Georgia Urology is to provide the most advanced and minimally invasive options for patients suffering from BPH," said Dr. Michael Kemper. "The response since our launch has been outstanding, and we're thrilled to have already treated over 20 patients with this breakthrough procedure since July."

Following the procedure, patients generally stay overnight at the hospital for observation and experience symptom relief within days to weeks, with results lasting 5 to 7 years or longer.

Understanding BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia)

BPH is a common condition that affects nearly 50% of men over 50 and 90% of men over 80. Symptoms include difficulty with urination, such as dribbling, frequent urination, and, in severe cases, urinary retention. At the same time, many men manage symptoms through medication or lifestyle adjustments.

"Many patients tolerate symptoms for years before seeking treatment," Dr. Kemper noted. "At Georgia Urology, we want to raise awareness of the highly effective, minimally invasive options available today so patients can return to a better quality of life sooner rather than later."

Advanced treatments like Aquablation offer long-lasting relief with minimal side effects.

Comprehensive BPH Treatment Options at Georgia Urology

In addition to Aquablation, Georgia Urology offers a wide array of BPH treatment solutions, including Rezum water vapor therapy, GreenLight laser therapy, and TURP (Transurethral Resection of the Prostate). This ensures that every patient receives a treatment plan tailored to their needs, offering the most effective and comfortable solutions.
