Internships and Education Programs Train Future Water Leaders

At Contra Costa Water District, we are dedicated to fostering the next generation of wise water users and water industry professionals. Through a combination of youth water education programs and internship opportunities for high school and college students, we are nurturing future water leaders preparing to meet our community's evolving water needs.

Our Water Education Program (WEP) reaches nearly 30,000 students annually, providing tours, field trips, and interactive presentations that deepen their understanding of water conservation, science, and treatment. With a focus on practical learning, the program integrates technology and hands-on activities to make learning about water engaging and impactful.

Simultaneously, CCWD's internship programs offer hands-on experience in the water industry. Technical and operational internships for college students provide valuable insights into future career possibilities. Through partnerships with local nonprofit organizations like Biotech Partners, Jewish Vocational Service, and BAYWORK, our high school internship program encourages students to explore water utility careers while developing invaluable work skills and experience.

These initiatives are investments in our community's future. By engaging young people today, we are ensuring a knowledgeable, skilled workforce to manage our water resources tomorrow.
