Temporary Ban on Fireworks Use

City of Oroville

1735 Montgomery Street

Oroville, CA 95928

From: Bill LaGrone, Director of Emergency Services

Contact Person: Kelli Riley, Oroville Police Department

Oroville, CA - Due to the ongoing Thompson Fire and extreme fire conditions, local and regional emergency response resources are stretched extremely thin. Consequently, the California Department of State Parks has announced the cancellation of the planned Fourth of July Fireworks Display scheduled at the Forebay on the evening of the Fourth of July (see link below).

In a precautionary measure, under Oroville Municipal Code Section 8.08.060, subsection A, 6(a), the Director of Emergency Services has issued an Emergency Regulation temporarily banning the use of all fireworks in the City limits, including the Safe and Sane variety, until such time that the director of Emergency Services determines it to be safe and this Order is lifted.

Firework vendors are strongly encouraged to cease the sale of Safe and Sane fireworks immediately. Vendors who continue to sell Safe and Sane fireworks must post the Emergency Regulation prominently at the point of sale and must provide a copy of the Emergency Regulation to all customers purchasing fireworks.

Safety of our community and the public is the City's top priority. With the Thompson Fire still burning, emergency response resources must be preserved and dedicated for true emergencies. Public safety personnel need to focus on protecting life and property and we must all do our part to prevent unnecessary strain on our emergency response system.
