The recent chemical fire at BioLab Inc.'s facility in Conyers, GA, has highlighted the company's troubling history with regulatory compliance issues involving the EPA, EPD, and OSHA. According to BioLab's reports to EPD, the company experienced issues with chemical reactions and smoking in both 2016 and 2020. Earlier this year, an EPD inspector discovered nine violations involving the company's handling of hazardous waste, posing potential safety hazards. Additionally, BioLab has a history of late payments for air-quality permits.

Regarding the most recent fire, Gerald Pouncey Jr., chairman of Morris, Manning and Martin's environment and infrastructure law practices, said "the magnitude of this issue is atypical in the industry."
