Cedar Falls Public Safety Welcomes New K9

Cedar Falls Public Safety is welcoming a new member to the team. Zara, an 18-month-old female Dutch Shepard, has been sworn in as the department's K9.

Cedar Falls Officer Mike Marcotte has been assigned as the handler for Zara. The two recently completed a five-week training course with Tree Town Kennels in Forest City, Iowa. The community can expect to see Zara out on patrol in the future.

About the Cedar Falls Public Safety K9 Program

The primary objectives of the Cedar Falls Public Safety K9 program are offender apprehension and tracking, search and rescue, and drug investigation. In addition, the program provides educational opportunities to connect with citizens so they can learn more about local policing during outreach events.
