NEW YORK - New York Life has announced the appointment of Xin Wang, Ph.D., CFP®, AEP® as the company's 2024 Council President, a once-in-a-career honor afforded to the top-ranking individual among the company's more than 12,000 advisors and agents. Wang, who was a heart surgeon in China before immigrating to the United States in 2003, is the first person to achieve this honor after serving two consecutive terms as Council Vice President, which is the second ranking among all the company's advisors and agents. He also amassed a New York Life-record three-year production total from 2022-24.
"While Xin's record-breaking performance is incredibly impressive, his character is what most differentiates him," said Mark Madgett, executive vice president and co-head of New York Life's Foundational Business. "Xin possesses a rare mix of confidence and humility, underpinned by a peerless work ethic and a genuine care for his clients that has enabled him to achieve this career milestone."
Wang is the founder of Abacus Financial Strategies LLC in Houston, TX. He and his team specialize in providing holistic advice and financial planning, especially estate planning. This enables Wang to leverage his analytical nature to solve complex financial challenges for clients. This includes tax optimization, investment strategies, legal knowledge, and even navigating family dynamics. Wang's focus on serving other Chinese immigrants has enabled him to develop a strong network of referrals, building his business over the decades through word-of-mouth and client trust.
Wang shared that during his time with New York Life, he has maintained a simple philosophy that has enabled his outsized success: keep working hard. A financial advisor with Eagle Strategies, New York Life's wholly owned investment advisory subsidiary, he has earned his Certified Financial Planner® (CFP®) and Accredited Estate Planner® (AEP®) designations. Wang has qualified for Council, New York Life's program that recognizes high performance by the company's advisors and agents, every year of his career.
Wang grew up in China, where he graduated from medical school. He practiced in the top hospital in his province and taught at the medical school affiliated with the hospital. In 2003, he completed a cardiac surgery-related Ph.D. program at the University of Milan. He worked as a doctor prior to immigrating to the United States at age 40 to pursue better opportunities for his family.
"I'm fortunate to enjoy my work and be in a position to contribute to the success of my clients," said Wang. "I take tremendous pride in being professional, passionate, and hardworking, and for treating clients with great respect and care. I strive to try my best each and every day."
