On 6 September another round of Interdepartmental consultations of the Russian side with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) took place in Kaliningrad.
The Russian delegation headed by Director General of Rosatom Mr. Alexey Likhachev comprised Head of Rostechnadzor Mr. Alexander Trembitskiy, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the International Organizations in Vienna Mr. Mikhail Ulyanov; Deputy Director of the Department for Nonproliferation and Arms Control of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Mr. Mikhail Kondratenkov; Chief of Radiation, Chemical, and Biological Protection Troops of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Mr. Igor Kirillov; and Head of the General Directorate for Facilities' Security of the Federal National Guard Troops Service Vladimir Mashevskiy.
The IAEA delegation was led by the Agency Director General Mr. Rafael Grossi.
The main emphasis of the talks was placed on two issues - safety and security of the Kursk and the Zaporozhskaya nuclear power plants.
Alexey Likhachev emphasized that the Kursk NPP is operating in a normal mode, which Rafael Grossi was able to see for himself during his visit on 27 August. At the same time, the Rosatom Director General pointed out directly that the Russian side expects an adequate response from the IAEA Secretariat to the Kyiv regime's recent attacks on the plant.
With regard to the Zaporozhskaya NPP, Alexey Likhachev confirmed that the Russian side is doing everything necessary to ensure safe operation of the plant against the background of escalating Ukrainian provocations. The Rosatom Director General also touched upon issues related to information exchange between the IAEA team at the NPP and the Russian agencies.
Rafael Grossi, in his turn, shared his assessment of the situation at the Zaporozhskaya and the Kursk NPPs. He informed about a regular rotation of the IAEA experts at the Zaporozhskaya NPP that took place on 4 September, during which the IAEA Director General visited the plant and, among other things, the cooling tower destroyed in the attack of 11 August.
The parties confirmed their arrangement to continue contacts on a regular basis.
