Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown has ordered flags at all City facilities be lowered to half-staff to coincide with Governor Jay Inslee's directive that state and U.S. flags at all state agency facilities be lowered on Thursday, Nov. 7, in remembrance of Lieutenant Commander Lyndsay Evans and Lieutenant Serena Wileman.

"Spokane sends its deepest sympathies and condolences to Lt. Cmdr. Evans and Lt. Wileman's families, friends, and colleagues," said Mayor Brown. "I encourage anyone with a flag outside of their home or business to join us in this recognition to honor their memory."

Lt. Cmdr. Evans and Lt. Wileman tragically lost their lives during a training flight near Mount Rainier on October 15, 2024. They had recently returned from a nine-month deployment with The Zappers as part of Carrier Air Wing Three aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower.
