Let ‘Em Cook: How AI Robots Are Transforming Lab Work at Carolina

From cooking to chemistry, this robot is able to maneuver freely in scientific labs and adapt to perform tasks alongside humans - without getting in the way.

UNC-Chapel Hill researchers taught a robot to perform cooking actions using AI software. This robot now helps the lab transport samples, operate equipment and synthesize materials.

"The integration of robotics and AI is poised to revolutionize science labs," said Angelos Angelopoulos, a co-author of the paper and research assistant in Dr. Ron Alterovitz's Computational Robotics Group. "By automating routine tasks and accelerating experimentation, there is great potential for creating an environment where breakthroughs occur faster, safer and more reliably than ever before."
