Seasonal Garbage and Yard Waste Collection Reminders

Winter Yard-Waste Collection by Request Only

Starting on Monday, December 16, and running through Friday, February 28, the Solid Waste & Recycling division will collect winter yard waste by request only.

  • Customers can schedule yard waste collection services by calling Solid Waste & Recycling Customer Service at 319-286-5897 or submitting a My CR request at CityofCR.com/MyCR.
  • During December, January, and February, customer use of the yard waste program is reduced significantly, with our drivers making less than 100 stops per day compared to 3K-4K stops per day in warmer months.
  • Shifting to on-request service for the few customers using this program in winter ensures efficient, cost-effective operations and reduces fuel use. The adjustments also provide greater flexibility in collecting garbage and recycling during winter weather events.

Decorative Tree Disposal

Curbside collection for real, unflocked trees will run Monday, December 30 through Friday, January 10. Trees must be cut into even halves and set at least three feet from collection carts on resident's normal garbage collection day. They may also be placed in the YARDY cart as long as the lid can close. To protect the safety of crews, make sure trees are placed at curb height for collection. Items placed on top of snowbanks will not be collected.

In addition, trees are currently being accepted at Prairie Park Fishery, 2125 Otis Rd SE. The site is open to receive trees from 6:00 a.m. to dusk (one-half hour after sunset) and will close on January 15. Signs indicating the drop-off area are posted. Trees dropped off at Prairie Park will be placed on the ice to use as fish habitat as the ice melts in the spring.

All tinsel, ornaments, decorations, stands, watering packets, tree wrap, and netting must be removed from trees prior to either disposal method. Flocked trees, wreaths, and garlands cannot be recycled. The site is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
