University launches new mobile app for students

First version of the app tailored to undergraduate students launches Aug. 1

A new University of Iowa mobile app will launch on Aug. 1 to help students stay connected to academic information and access personalized resources, programs, and services during their time at Iowa.

The first version of the app will be available to the incoming class of students during On Iowa!, which begins Aug. 18. Two key features of the app are the On Iowa! schedule and a campus map to help new students get to the events they're interested in.

Other features of the app, designed based on student feedback include:

• Tailored content based on a student's year in school and the ability to further customize content based on individual preferences and interests.
• Integration with each student's MyUI account allowing them to quickly access important academic information such as academic advising, course information, financial aid, U-bill, and more.
• The ability to see their class schedule on the home screen. A campus map within the app also will help students navigate to the building where their class takes place.
• Information about campus dining options, including hours, locations, and daily menus.
• Easy access to services and resources that support well-being and safety including Nite Ride, Recreational Services, Student Care and Assistance, Student Health, University Counseling Service, and more.
• Connection to campus resources that support student success, such as writing centers, libraries, Pomerantz Career Center, the Grad Success Center, and more.
• New features will be added and updates will be made regularly based on user feedback.

While anyone can download the new University of Iowa app, this version was built to help students stay connected to academic deadlines and resources.

The next version of the app will be tailored to graduate students, and future versions for faculty and staff are under consideration.

The University of Iowa app is a P3 initiative that was funded in fiscal year 2024. The project team managing the app will continually gather user feedback and add additional features and functionality.
