Shoplifter Arrested with a Firearm

At about 10:30 AM, on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, officers assigned to District C-6 (South Boston) arrested David Rattay, 33, Dorchester, on firearm charges.

Officers responded to the area of 5 Allstate Road for a report of a shoplifter in custody. Boston Police Operations advised officers that the shoplifter was in possession of a firearm.

Officers were advised by the Constable for the store that he observed the suspect shoplifting. As the Constable placed the suspect into handcuffs, he recovered a firearm from the suspect's right pant pocket. The firearm was later determined to be an unloaded Black Diamondback. As officers searched the suspect, they also recovered twelve pills of gabapentin.

Rattay was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Class E, and Shoplifting by Concealing Merchandise. The suspect also had two active warrants. He is expected to be arraigned in South Boston District Court.
