Washington, DC - The National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC) is honored to receive several awards for planning work over the past year.

The National Capital Area Chapter of the American Planning Association hosted its annual fall conference Friday, October 11 at the Washington Hilton. Every other year, the organization recognizes achievements in planning, public engagement, and individuals for their leadership in the region. NCPC was honored to receive two awards from the Chapter at the awards ceremony within the "Outstanding Project, Program, or Tool" category. The category is defined by significantly advancing the field of planning through innovation, effectiveness, and measurable impact, and highlights efforts that have addressed critical issues, improved community outcomes, and set new standards in planning practices.

The Federal Workplace Scenario Planning Study was honored as the Chapter's Outstanding Tool. The scenario planning approach used by the study provides a tool that agencies and regional jurisdictions can use to better understand federal workforce demographics, where federal workers live, transportation patterns, and the implications of telework policies across federal real estate. It will also help understand how these outcomes will affect cross-cutting issues such as equity and environmental sustainability.

The Beyond Granite: Pulling Together exhibition from 2023 was awarded as this year's Outstanding Project. The exhibition was a pilot of the larger Beyond Granite initiative to expand representation in the commemorative landscape and is a partnership led by the Trust for the National Mall with the National Park Service and NCPC.

Beyond Granite: Pulling Together
was subsequently recognized as a "Vision Award" Winner by The Committee of 100 for the Federal City at their awards ceremony on Thursday, October 17 at the United Church of Christ at 945 G Street NW. The Vision Awards were established in 2001 to celebrate high achievement in responsible planning, land use, design, historic preservation, and enhancement of the quality of life in our Nation's Capital. The award is dedicated to the Trust for the National Mall and partners for contributing to the protection and enhancement of the city's unique sense of place and character.

"For over 100 years, NCPC has been a proud leader of planning in the Washington, DC region. We are honored to receive these awards for significant achievements around the future of our federal workforce as well as how the nation's story is shared in our most symbolic public space of the National Mall. These awards represent our contributions to the city and the power of partnership, and we are honored to receive them from local thought-leaders," said Marcel Acosta, Executive Director, NCPC.
