Local Students Complete Summer Internships in Washington D.C. with Congressman James Comer

WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman James Comer (R-Ky.) recognized Kelly Parr and Gabriella Smith for completing their summer internships in his Washington, D.C. office. While in their roles, the interns spent time answering constituent inquiries, researching legislative issues, and assisting in the daily operations of the office.

"Kelly and Gabriella were a tremendous asset to my Washington D.C. office this past summer, and I want to thank them for their outstanding service to Kentucky's 1st Congressional District. Their work was crucial to helping me and my staff, as well as assisting so many Kentuckians. This group has a bright future ahead of them, and I look forward to seeing each of their endeavors and achievements," Congressman Comer said.

Kelly Parr, Calloway County, is a sophomore pursuing her degree in Agriculture Business from Murray State University.

"My internship with Congressman Comer has provided me with opportunities to see how agriculture operates within Congress, and I am thankful for the networking and communication skills I've gained this summer," said Ms. Parr.

Gabriella Smith, McCracken County, is pursuing her Graduate degree from Baylor University in Waco, Texas.

"I have learned a lot about health-related issues and see how our legislative process works to assist constituents in the 1st Congressional District. Congressman Comer's office helped better my understanding of issues going on in the District," said Ms. Smith.

In Congressman Comer's Washington, DC office, internships run throughout the fall, spring, or summer semesters for college students. The hours are flexible to accommodate students' course schedules, but generally run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
