East County Advanced Water Purification Program Construction Update

The East County Advanced Water Purification Joint Powers Authority has received an 'AA' outlook stable rating from the U.S. credit rating agency Fitch Rating. This high rating indicates a very strong capacity for payment of financial commitments and provides a positive signal to potential investors.

At Lake Jennings, crews have nearly completed digging the trench for the purified water inlet. Pipeline installation and subsurface work in the lakes will occur this summer, along with maintenance work on the reservoir's outlet tower. The water level at Lake Jennings has been temporarily lowered by approximately 23 feet to allow for work and should be restored to full capacity by November.

The purified water pipeline that will transport water from the facilities north of Santee Lakes to Lake Jennings is now over 40% complete. More than 21,657 linear feet of pipe has been installed of the 10+ miles pipeline. Work is continuing along Mast Boulevard in Santee and Mapleview Street in Lakeside.

Over 7,000 linear feet of wastewater pipeline has been laid, and construction is continuing on Fanita Parkway and at Santee Lakes. This makes up over 60% of the total open cut construction work for this pipeline. 10,500 feet of wastewater and brine pipeline is currently being housed on the west side of Santee Lakes and is set to be installed in early summer.

Just north of Santee Lakes, concrete work is ongoing on the advanced water purification, water recycling and solids handling facilities. Roughly 37,000 cubic yards of concrete has been poured, marking more than 70% of the total concrete that will be used at this site. Once complete, it'll be enough concrete to fill 16 Olympic-sized swimming pools. The Education Center is also taking shape with vertical construction and roofing installation underway.
