The State of Alaska, Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry & Fire Protection (DOF), gives notice under A.S. 38.05.945 that certain timber will be sold at 10:00 AM AKST on DECEMBER 20th, 2024, at the Fairbanks Area Office, 3700 Airport Way Fairbanks, Alaska. DOF has made a preliminary and/or final written finding under A.S. 38.05.035(e) that the sales will be in the best interest of the State. DOF is offering AT LEAST 8 Timber Sales in the Fairbanks Area. Sale prospectus and decision documents are available at https://forestry.alaska.gov/timber/fairbanks.

To be included in the auction, a timber sale must have a final Best Interest Finding and final Forest Land Use Plan issued after the comment period. DOF issued final decisions following completion of the statutory public & agency review on November 20th, 2024, but the 20-day appeal period is open through 12/13/24. If any decision documents are appealed and result in modification to or withdrawal of the decision document, DOF will withdraw the sale from the auction. Please contact DOF for updates regarding the status of the timber sales in which you are interested.

The State neither expressly nor implicitly warrants its quantity estimate, or the quality or marketability of the timber sold. Prospective bidders should visit the site and evaluate the timber before bidding. Estimates are used only to establish the minimum bid. Each operator is required to estimate their own costs and bid accordingly.

The Fairbanks auction will be a sealed bid auction beginning promptly at 10:00 AM AKST Friday, December 20th, 2024. No bids will be accepted after 10:00 AM AKST Friday, 12/20/24. Postmarks will notcount. The sealed bids will be opened by the Forester-in-charge at 10:00 AM AKST Friday, December 20th, 2024. Bidders are welcome to attend either in person (DNR Office Building Large Conference Room, 3700 Airport Way, Fairbanks AK 99709), but attendance is optional and has no bearing on the Auction process.

To qualify for bidding, all bidders must at the time of auction submit:

1. a current Alaska Business License, and
2. a minimum bid deposit of at least 10% of the final bid, in the form of cash, certified check, cashier's check, money order, or any combination thereof, payable to the State of Alaska, Department of Natural Resources. Personal checks will not be accepted for the opening bid deposit.
3. If bidding as an agent for an individual, partnership, or corporation, prior to the opening of the submitted bid, the agent must present a notarized power-of-attorney authorizing such agency to the auctioneer. No agent may represent more than one principal or bid in competition with the agent's principal.

If no qualified bid is received within the time specified during the auction, DOF may offer the sale for purchase over the counter without re-advertisement for not less than the advertised minimum bid. The State reserves the right to reject any or all bids. Unless all bids are rejected, the State will award the sale to the responsible qualified bidder offering the highest total bid value.

If the bidder does not execute the contract and furnish a satisfactory performance bond within 30 days of receipt of the contract for execution, the successful bidder's bid deposit will forfeit to the State as liquidated damages, and the successful bidder will lose all claim to the contract. The performance bond, plus any project bonds will be in the form of cash or certificate of deposit. Prior to execution of the contract the successful bidder must schedule a pre-operation meeting to review the contract and submit a logging plan.
