‘The Shadow Strays’ Trailer Tease Dark Suspense and Intense Fight Choreography

What lengths would you go to fight for a friend in need? The trailer for the action-packed The Shadow Straysdropped today, and it packs a punch - literally. Viewers get a glimpse of the dark and suspenseful atmosphere, gripping fight scenes, and the complex web of characters involved as 13 (Aurora Ribero) embarks on a mission to rescue a young boy named Monji (Ali Fikry) from the clutches of a crime syndicate. Directed by Timo Tjahjanto (The Night Comes for Us, The Big 4), The Shadow Strayspromises the gruesome, grotesque gore that fans of the director have come to expect and enjoy. The film boasts strong female leads in 13 and Umbra (Hana Malasan), with Timo remarking that he wants to prove that action is genderless.

Mastering the art of combat With such demanding action sequences, the cast had to undergo rigorous training. As her first action stint, Aurora Ribero revealed that she trained for four months before shooting. "I think this is one of the bravest things I have done in my life. The first two months were hard, and I felt so lost in the beginning. We all knew this would be a long and difficult journey, but we helped one another and worked hard. The energy on set was always amazing." Audiences will appreciate the unparalleled effort and quality that elevate this production to the next level. Stunt choreographers Muhammad Irfan and Trisna Irawan, longtime collaborators of Timo who have also worked on major action movies like The Raidand Star Wars: The Force Awakens, infused elements of the Indonesian martial arts silat, as well as kickboxing, Japanese katana swords, and other weapons as required by different scenes. "We wanted to show the beauty of the choreography but also its violence," they said.

Emotion and heart at the core While the scenes are packed with brutality, the film still touches on the vulnerability of its characters. "The Shadow Straystalks about having this feeling of love and having to express it. That's the heart of the story," Timo says.

Watch everything unfold in The Shadow Strays, premiering October 17, only on Netflix.
