Public Health Recommends Everyone Get Updated Vaccines

PASADENA, Calif.-Pasadena Public Health Department (PPHD) advises the community to get the updated 2024-2025 COVID-19 and influenza (flu) vaccines this fall and winter. Annual outbreaks of respiratory illnesses start in the fall and peak in the winter.

"The community's health remains a priority in Pasadena," said Acting Health Officer, Dr. Parveen Kaur. "Vaccines safely and effectively reduce infection rates and protect at-risk individuals from complications related to respiratory illnesses."

Updated 2024-2025 Flu Vaccine Recommendations
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends everyone 6 months and older, including those who are immunocompromised, receive an updated 2024-2025 flu vaccine to reduce the risk of influenza and its potentially serious complications.

Influenza viruses typically circulate annually in the United States, most commonly from the late fall through the early spring. September and October, and periods when influenza viruses are circulating, remain the best times for most people to get the flu vaccine. Most people can get no-cost updated flu vaccines through their private health insurance and Medicare or Medi-Cal health insurance plan.

Updated 2024-2025 COVID-19 Recommendations
The CDC recommends everyone ages 6 months and older, including those who are fully vaccinated, receive an updated 2024-2025 COVID-19 vaccine. It is especially important that those at higher risk of severe COVID-19 illness, such as residents who are 65 years or older or pregnant individuals, get the 2024-2025 COVID-19 vaccine. Most people can get no-cost updated COVID-19 vaccines through their private health insurance and Medicare or Medi-Cal health insurance plan. Adults without health insurance and adults whose insurance does not cover all vaccine costs can get no-cost updated COVID-19 vaccines at community health centers and federally qualified health centers. Children under the age of 18 may also be eligible to get a free COVID-19 vaccine through the CDC's Vaccines for Children Program. Community members with health insurance are encouraged to contact their physician or local pharmacy to request the 2024-2025 COVID-19 vaccine.
