Des Moines, Iowa- Monday, September 23, 2024 - The City of Des Moines has been awarded the designation of a 2025 Iowa Thriving Community, as announced by the Iowa Finance Authority (IFA) and the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA). This designation recognizes Des Moines' commitment to innovative housing solutions and its leadership in addressing the housing needs of its workforce.

With this designation, Des Moines will benefit from highly competitive scoring points for the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program. These points will be available for projects in the 2025 LIHTC application cycle, offering developers significant tax-related incentives to choose Des Moines as the site for new housing developments.

Des Moines earned this distinction through an application process, showcasing its innovative housing strategies and commitment to creating a vibrant, inclusive community. The City was evaluated in the areas of financial support, Iowa Thriving Community attributes, planning and assessment, proposed neighborhood or site for housing development, strategic leadership and partnerships, and workforce attraction and retention.
