Congressman Cohen Discusses a New I-55 Bridge and Other Memphis Priorities with Transportation Secretary Buttigieg

WASHINGTON - Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), a senior member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today discussed the need for a new Interstate 55 bridge over the Mississippi River at an oversight hearing with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

Congressman Cohen also raised Memphis-specific issues including its nation-leading pedestrian fatality rates, this week's announcement of a $21.8 million Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) discretionary grant to complete the Wolf River Greenway, and the need for passenger rail service between Memphis and Nashville.

As the Ranking Member of the Aviation Subcommittee, the congressman also discussed implementation of the refund provisions of the recently passed Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization Act. He reiterated his ongoing commitments to assuring that airline seat sizes are not reduced and that the FAA evaluates airplane emergency evacuations with a population representative of the flying public.
