EGAT and OBEC jointly create learning sources, enhancing out-of-class experiences for youth

3 July 2024

EGAT, OBEC, and allies join hands to promote out-of-class learning, creating ideal learning sources with the aim of developing Thai education to an international level and allowing Thai students to learn through direct experiences in communities, learning centers, and museums.

On June 29, 2024, Professor Dr. Pisut Painmanakul, a member of the Board of Directors of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT); Dr. Rattana Sangbuaphuen, Director of the Bureau of Basic Education Monitoring and Evaluation, Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC); and Ms. Rutchadaporn Siangsanoh, Director of Corporate Communication and Public Relations of EGAT, jointly kicked off the "Ideal Learning Source Project," at Bella B Hotel, Bang Kruai District, Nonthaburi Province. The project aims to develop out-of-class learning sources which meet needs of the youth and support the active learning approach of the Ministry of Education which enhances the competencies of the learners and inspires teachers and students to engage with modern learning centers on electric energy and the environment, contributing to the development of learning and teaching processes.

Professor Dr. Pisut Painmanakul, a member of the EGAT Board of Directors, said that learning is a lifelong process. At present, online channels enable people to learn from anywhere easily. However, comprehensive learning needs the cooperation and integration of all sectors. With EGAT's eight learning centers located across the country, various museums in Thailand, as well as OBED's resources, the collaboration will contribute to worthwhile learning opportunities. The feedback of the visitors, especially the younger generation and community members, is important, while experiences and wisdom of the older generation must not be neglected. When all of these dimensions are connected, people will gain well-rounded knowledge and benefit from the learning centers, and family relationship will be strengthened.

Dr. Rattana Sangbuaphuen, Director of the Bureau of Basic Education Monitoring and Evaluation, OBEC, said that active learning approach can be enhanced through out-of-class learning which provides direct experiences for the youth. It starts with learning from the community and extends to learning from online channels accessible anywhere. Moreover, there are other learning sources nationwide, including EGAT learning centers, museums, and 245 educational offices of OBEC with compiled information about learning sources in each area which teachers and students can visit.

Ms. Rutchadaporn Siangsanoh, Director of Corporate Communication and Public Relations of EGAT, stated that EGAT recognizes the importance of developing out-of-class learning sources to support Thailand's education. With eight learning centers located across the country, EGAT has collaborated with the National Science Museum (NSM) and the Office of Knowledge Management and Development (OKMD) to disseminate the knowledge about electric power and the environment which is involved with EGAT's mission. The learning centers serve as out-of-class learning sources and spark creative thinking, while OBEC's teachers and students help provide feedback to align the learning centers with the school curriculum. This helps educational institutes and the public gain optimal benefits from the learning centers.

The event includes seminars titled "Spark Your Dream" and "Create Meaningful Learning @ EGAT Learning Center," the exhibition tour at EGAT Learning Center - EGAT Headquarters, a workshop: "Create Meaningful Learning @ EGAT Learning Center," and a study visit to Wang Noi Power Plant in Ayutthaya Province. All aim to develop the valuable out-of-class learning sources for everyone.
