RCMP investigating fatal fire

July 14, 2024, Cavendish, PEI - Queens District RCMP is investigating a fatal fire that occurred at a cottage on Route 6 in Cavendish.

At approximately 5:40 a.m. this morning, Queens District RCMP, the New Glasgow Fire Department, North Rustico Fire Department, and EMS responded to a report of a cottage fire on Route 6 in Cavendish. Upon arrival, RCMP officers discovered that a structure was fully engulfed in flames. Three people who escaped the fire were injured, one with serious injuries. Once the fire was extinguished by the fire departments, human remains of one person were discovered inside.

The scene was held by the RCMP and the investigation is ongoing.

The investigation is being assisted by the PEI Fire Marshal's Office, the PEI Coroner's Office, and RCMP Forensic Identification Services.
