First Draft of Walker County’s Digital Connectivity Plan Now Available

Walker County, in partnership with Connect Humanity and Thrive Regional Partnership, created a Digital Connectivity Plan (DCP) working draft for the county. This document provides a snapshot of what internet access looks like in Walker County. Among the topics covered are which Internet Service Providers are in our community, how they provide access (fiber, cable, dsl, etc.), advertised speeds versus real speeds documented by consumers, affordability of access, unserved and underserved communities, etc.

Attached is the first draft of the DCP. It contains the bulk of the research, which will make up a good portion of the final plan. The other sections that are still to come will provide suggestions on potential work plans to improve internet access, along with cost estimates associated with those potential work plans.

After reviewing the draft plan, make plans to attend a Digital Connectivity session on Monday, August 26 at 6pm at the Civic Center to provide your feedback.
