Fort Hill Cemetery Tours to Take Place Oct. 27

On Sunday, Oct. 27, Lee University will present the 18th Annual Walking Tour of Historic Fort Hill Cemetery.

The walking tours to the gravesites will be led by Lee University history majors and volunteers from Cleveland State Community College who will introduce the community to several fascinating Clevelanders and Bradley Countians from the 19th and 20th centuries buried at Fort Hill. Lee students dressed in period costume will bring these residents to life.

This year's historical characters include Levi and Harriet Trewhitt, Rev. Jackson and Eliza Kennedy, Col. Spencer Boyd, Robert and Florence Lawson, Edna Tonkin, John and Virginia Stivers, S.B. and Clara Rymer, Shepherd and Mildred Pierce, and David and Pearl North.

Tours begin at 4 p.m. A new tour will start every 10-15 minutes, with the last tour leaving at 6 p.m.

The cost is $5 per person or $2 for students.

Guests should park at Cleveland Christian Fellowship (695 S. Ocoee Street) and ride the van that will shuttle guests to and from the tour site marked by designated tents. Guests will purchase a tour brochure at the tents and join the next departing tour with a tour guide. Tours last about 75 minutes.
