Artists in recovery invited to submit artwork for future addictions treatment center

Washington County Behavioral Health and Studio Art Direct invite local artists in recovery from problem substance use to submit their artwork for possible display. Artwork selected will be featured at one of two buildings that make up Washington County's future Center for Addictions Triage and Treatment (CATT) in Beaverton and Hillsboro. Artists will be compensated for their work.

"In designing the CATT, we've been inspired by those with lived experience of struggling with substance use," Project Manager Kristin Burke said. "Their individual stories of recovery and hope were foundational to the project and shaped many elements of the center. Displaying artwork from people in the recovery community is one way we can honor their stories and contributions to the CATT project."

"We are seeking artwork with themes of transformation, hope and the natural world," said Janelle Baglien, president and art director of Studio Art Direct. "Nature's calming influence plays a significant role in addictions treatment, and we encourage submissions that reflect this tranquility, as well as stories of personal transformation and strength."

The deadline for submissions is September 30, with selected artists notified on October 20. Artwork will be installed at the two locations in 2025. Complete guidelines and additional instructions are available on Studio Art Direct's website.

Washington County's Center for Addictions Triage and Treatment (CATT) will be the first of its kind in Oregon, offering sobering, withdrawal management, residential treatment, culturally specific outpatient treatment, peer services, housing supports and crisis services, all provided in a coordinated manner.
