State Police Investigating Fatal Crash on NYS Thruway

On May 9, 2024, at approximately 12:26 p.m., the New York State Police responded to a fatal motor vehicle collision on I-90 in the town of Chili.

A preliminary investigation revealed a tractor-trailer, operated by Thomas J. Lis, age 64, of Central Square, NY, was traveling eastbound when it struck two New York State Thruway Authority workers in a work zone.

One of the workers was a 62-year-old male who was pronounced deceased at the scene. The other, a 58-year-old male was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital by Chili-Henrietta-Scottsville Ambulance. He is listed in critical condition at this time.

This investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed.
