On Thursday, at Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker's third annual "Where Achievement Begins: Mayor's Celebration for Workforce-Ready Graduates," 168 local graduating seniors were honored with the Mayor's Achievement Award in recognition of their work to achieve workforce readiness skills, professional certificates and internship experience in addition to high school diplomas.

Why it matters: A top percentage of students were selected by each of the 12 school districts in Fort Worth that offer high schools with career readiness programs: Burleson ISD, Birdville ISD, Castleberry ISD, Crowley ISD, Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD, Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD, Everman ISD, Fort Worth ISD, Lake Worth ISD, Keller ISD, Northwest ISD and White Settlement ISD.

To discuss how these programs and opportunities have impacted their lives and futures, NBC-5's Deborah Ferguson hosted a panel conversation at the event between Parker, an honoree from Fort Worth ISD, Rolando Jaramillo, and a recent graduate and T3 scholar, Lizbeth Moldanado.

What they're saying: "Fort Worth is full of exceptional students with limitless potential, and it is an honor to recognize a group of them who are working to prioritize career-readiness so early in their educational career," Parker said. "The opportunities that our school districts are working to provide are vital to not only these students' individual success, but also the success of city and region. I am excited to see Fort Worth's leaders in philanthropy, business and government continue to rally around these efforts as a community and help bolster these programs to their full potential."

Go deeper: During the panel, Parker discussed the ongoing work of the Mayor's Council on Education & Workforce, a group launched in 2022 to influence and enhance educational programs and career pathways in Fort Worth public schools to help prepare students for their future careers and, including careers that help meet the current and future needs of business and industry in Fort Worth and North Texas.

To further celebrate the seniors' hard work and achievement, all students in attendance at the event were presented with a Mayor's Achievement Award medal and surprised with an Altec Lansing Mix 2.0 Everythingproof Bluetooth Party Speaker from the event's sponsors, Walmart, Sam's Club and Fort Worth Education Partnership, a nonprofit that supports access to high-quality educational experiences for Fort Worth children.
