DCNR Announces New Assistant Manager for Laurel Hill State Park Complex

Harrisburg, PA -- Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn announced the appointment of Ian Brown to serve as an assistant manager for the Laurel Hill State Park Complex in southwestern Pennsylvania.

"Ian has proven himself to be a dedicated leader as a ranger and we are excited to see him take on this new challenge as an assistant park manager," Dunn said. "We are confident that Ian's skillset, understanding, and commitment to public service will be a great addition to leadership at the Laurel Hill Complex."

Brown officially began assisting with operations in the park complex, which includes Kooser and Laurel Ridge state parks, in January.

He is responsible for coordinating law enforcement efforts for the state parks and state forests district in the Laurel Highlands, in addition to his assistant manager duties at Laurel Ridge.

"I like helping people whatever the situation is, whether it is customer service or in a difficult situation," Brown said. "I am enjoying the new leadership role at Laurel Hill, working with law enforcement in the region, and I look forward to learning and growing in this role."

Brown is a Sharpsville, Pennsylvania native who spent a lot of his time with family at Pymatuning State Park fishing and camping.

He noted that he has always wanted to be a ranger, pointing to his time working as a summer ranger for the Army Corps of Engineers at Shenango River Lake.

Brown's career with DCNR includes time as a ranger at Pymatuning, Frances Slocum, Keystone, and Ohiopyle state parks, as well as serving as a Wildland Fire Boss and an instructor in several law enforcement disciplines.

He holds a degree in Park and Resource Management from Slippery Rock University.

Brown is an avid hunter and angler, who also enjoys snowmobiling and riding ATVs.

He enjoys spending time with his wife, Brittany; daughter, Kamryn; and dogs, Rex and Ranger.
