Texan Baseball’s Bassinger, Softball’s Rehmeier earn The Grove Student-Athlete of the Month awards for April

STEPHENVILLE, Texas - Pitchers ruled the month of April in Tarleton Athletics, as Texan Baseball's and Texan Softball's were named The Grove Student-Athletes of the Month.
The student-athlete of the month is selected based on the all-around student-athlete for one male and one female. The student-athlete shows effort and excellence in academics, leadership, civility, dedication to the team, campus involvement, community service, and the ability to serve as role models for current and future Tarleton State University students and student-athletes.
To be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or better. Only athletes competing in their championship season are eligible for the award each month.
Tarleton Baseball is in the middle of a strong first season under head coach Fuller Smith, and the Texans went 10-7 in April, largely thanks to RHP Bassinger. Bassinger spotted a 4-0 record in the month with a 2.11 ERA in his seven appearances. He had the most innings pitched (21.1) for Tarleton State, the tied-most strikeouts (18), and allowed just two extra base hits. Batters had a .213 average against Bassinger. In four of his seven appearances, Bassinger allowed no runs, including against two top-10 teams nationally, No. 1 Texas A&M and No. 7 Dallas Baptist.
Texan Softball, meanwhile, has made a strong push late to put themselves in position to make the WAC Tournament. Rehmeier appeared in eight of Tarleton's 13 games in April, going 3-0 with a 4.32 ERA in 24.1 IP. The Texans went 4-0 across her four starts, including her last two, in which she threw a complete game each time allowing just one run. She tossed a two-hit complete game shutout against Utah Tech on April 19, then a week later, went seven innings again for a win at Seattle U, allowing just a single run on five hits. She struck out a team-high 17 batters in April, allowing a .253 batting average.
