22nd Annual Ken Kringle Historic Preservation Award Winners Announced

The City of Dubuque Historic Preservation Commission presented the 22nd Annual Ken Kringle Historic Preservation Awards at a public reception and ceremony on Wednesday May 8, at the historic Robinson-Lacy Mansion, 1640 Main Street.

The following people were presented awards in recognition of their outstanding preservation achievements:

  • Kara Bunte & David Klavitter, for restoration of lost details on the historic Woodward house, 1090 W. 3rd Street.
  • Chris Miller, for restoration and rehabilitation of the Chadwick Block, 249 W. 1st St., a two-part commercial block in the Locust St. gateway formerly threatened with demolition.
  • Vicki Blake, for rehabilitation of a former filling/service station at 105 Locust St. into a micro boutique hotel, further enhancing the Locust St. gateway.
  • Tammy & Brian Lammers, for restoration and rehabilitation of the historic Bennett House Hotel, 84 Main St., into housing and commercial space.
  • Gary Carner & Tom Kelzer, for restoration and rehabilitation of the historic Shroeder House and Music Conservatory, 1450 Iowa St., putting it back into housing.

The Ken Kringle Historic Preservation Award was established in 2002 by the City of Dubuque Historic Preservation Commission to recognize excellence in historic preservation. Awards are announced annually for the best preservation efforts located in the city of Dubuque. The award is named after the late Ken Kringle for his dedication to historic preservation through his involvement as a member and past chairperson of the Historic Preservation Commission, president of the Bluff Street Neighborhood Association, resident of the Cathedral Historic Preservation District, and member of the Old House Enthusiasts Club.
