Senator Calls for Passage of Resolution Condemning Protests and Targeting of Jewish Students

WASHINGTON - Senator John Hoeven this week spoke on the Senate floor to call out anti-Semitic protests taking place around the country. Hoeven joined Senator Tim Scott in a colloquy to call for passage of their resolution condemning anti-Semitism on U.S. college campuses and pressing officials to take action to protect Jewish students.

"The rise of anti-Semitism in our society and particularly what we are seeing on college campuses is deeply troubling. I never thought I would see anti-Semitism like this in America and it is absolutely unacceptable," said Hoeven. Colleges and universities ought to be spaces that encourage free thinking and free speech, where students can learn about the world and their place in it. There can be no space, however, for anti-Semitism on our college campuses."

The senator cited examples of hate including anti-Zionist encampments at universities, individuals prohibiting Jewish students from entering university buildings, and other acts targeting Jewish individuals.

Additionally, the senator joined 25 other senators, led by Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR), in pressing Attorney General Merrick Garland and Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona to protect Jewish students being targeted by pro-Hamas, anti-Semitic mobs and to restore order to the college campuses that have been shut down by ongoing protests.
