Media Invitation: Police Minister to deliver eulogy at funeral service of slain officer killed while responding to Domestic Violence incident in Western Cape

CAPE TOWN - The Police Ministry remains extremely concerned about police officers killed while executing their duties across the country.

In the latest incident, a 44-year-old Sergeant Adian Mahoney was shot and killed while responding to a domestic violence incident in Atlantis; Western Cape.

According to police reports, on 17 April 2024, officer Mahoney and his partner responded to a domestic violence complaint, on arrival a scuffle broke out between the Sergeant and the alleged perpetrator who managed to disarm the member. The suspect used the State firearm and shot the Sergeant before firing several shots at his partner but missed.

The 44-year-old sergeant died on the scene.

Minister of Police General Bheki Cele and the SAPS management led by Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Lt General Thembisile Patekile, will attend the funeral service and pay their last respects to the fallen member.

The funeral service will unfold as follows:
