Minister of Defence Laanet in Ida-Viru County: the most important thing is to keep the people of Estonia united

Minister of Defence Kalle Laanet paid a two-day visit to Ida-Viru County. In Jõhvi, Laanet met with the heads of local governments, who focused on issues of population protection and national defence in light of the war in Ukraine.

At the University of Tartu Narva College, the Minister of Defence discussed the security situation in Estonia with the residents of Narva and Mayor Katri Raik.

"At this time, it is of particular importance to maintain the cohesion of the people of Estonia. The war in Ukraine has touched us all and the Kremlin's aggression has changed the world for all of us, but as a nation and a society we are standing together and helping Ukraine," said the Minister of Defence.

"That is why I consider it important to explain to the people of Ida-Viru in person the readiness of Estonian Defence Forces and our NATO allies to defend Estonia and the current security situation in general," he added.

The members of the Narva unit of the Estonian Defence League introduced the upcoming activities and exercises in the region, and admitted that youth work with the Young Eagles (Noored Kotkad) and the Home Daughters (Kodutütred) is gaining momentum and membership is growing.

During his visit to Ida-Viru County, Minister of Defence Kalle Laanet also met with representatives of the Port of Sillamäe and the Viru Keemia Group, where the main topics of discussion were energy security and the security situation in the world at large.
