Nordic Semiconductor today announces that its nRF9160 low power System-in-Package (SiP) with integrated LTE-M/NB-IoT modem and GPS has been named winner of the 'Innovative IoT Application of the Year' award in the 7th Electronics Maker (EM) Best of Industry Awards 2021.
Excellence and innovation
An annual program that celebrates outstanding electronics design and technology, the Electronics Maker Best of Industry Awards are India's leading electronics industry awards, with this year's winners revealed in a live streamed 'virtual' presentation ceremony in front of an audience of industry leaders and technical media. The winners were chosen by an independent judging committee of senior industry experts and members of EM Media's editorial team.
"The winners of the 2021 EM Best Awards set industry standards for excellence and innovation," says EM Media CEO Chander Vaid. "We honor Nordic's nRF9160 SiP for its outstanding and innovative technology, value, and far-reaching influence in the India market. It will help empower the development of the IoT industry in this country and we congratulate the entire team at Nordic Semiconductor for this success."
"Recognition for the nRF9160 SiP in this highly competitive and prestigious awards program is not only hugely gratifying, but evidence Nordic Semiconductor has successfully made a name for itself not only as the leading Bluetooth Low Energy semiconductor company, but also as an IoT company at the cutting edge of long range wireless cellular IoT technology," says Gaurav Kapoor, Regional Sales Manager - India for Nordic Semiconductor.
IoT investment
"India is on a steep growth path for IoT technology with major investment in smart city and smart grid infrastructure. To meet the wireless connectivity needs of these projects will demand robust, secure and low power cellular IoT technology, and that is exactly what the nRF9160 offers."
The nRF9160 is a low power SiP certified for global cellular IoT applications, comprising a dedicated application processor and memory, multimode LTE-M/NB-IoT modem with integrated RF Front End (RFFE), GPS, and power management in a compact 10 by 16 by 1mm package. The 64MHz Arm® Cortex®-M33 processor includes 1MB Flash and 256kB RAM, Arm TrustZone® for trusted execution, and Arm CryptoCell™ 310 for application layer security.
The nRF9160 SiP's LTE modem supports both SIM and eSIM, offers 700 to 2200MHz LTE band support, 23dBm output power, -108dBm RX sensitivity in LTE-M, and -114dBm RX sensitivity in NB-IoT mode, and single pin 50Ω antenna- and UICC-interfaces. The SiP supports both PSM and eDRX power saving modes. For both LTE-M and NB-IoT the PSM floor current is as low as 2.7µA, and with an eDRX interval of 655 seconds the average current is 6µA for LTE-M and 9µA for NB-IoT. It combines cellular network location data with GPS trilateration for precise position monitoring in asset tracking applications.
