University Recognizes Outstanding Students During Honors Day

University of the Ozarks administrators and faculty presented the University's top academic and division awards for the 2023-24 academic year during the 67th annual Honors Day ceremony, held Wednesday afternoon in the Walton Fine Arts Center.

Solena Angeli Martinez Aleman was named the recipient of the 2024 Wiley Lin Hurie Memorial Award, presented to the outstanding senior in the graduating class as voted on by the faculty. The Hurie Award is named in honor of the long-time president of the University and is the highest honor given to an Ozarks student. Aleman, a health science and business administration major from Leon, Nicaragua, was also named the Outstanding Student in Health Science

The award winners in the Division of Humanities and Fine Arts included, Outstanding Student in Art - Génesis Cruz Baltodano; the Amanda Alders Pike Art Award - Génesis Cruz Baltodano, Elisabeth Hays, and Mirian Miralda; Outstanding Student in English - Dax Grove; Outstanding Student in History - Tanner Russell; Outstanding Student in Music - Eber Martinez; Outstanding Student in Philosophy - Solange Avalo Martinez; Outstanding Student in Spanish - Karlee McCaghren; Outstanding Student in Religion - Daniel Hicks; and Outstanding Student in Theatre - Daisy Woodbury.

The awards in the Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics included, Outstanding Student in Biology - Reese Ramirez; Outstanding Student in Health Science - Solena Angeli Martinez Aleman; Outstanding Student in Psychology - Halley Wheeler; Outstanding Student in Mathematics - Eber Martinez Renteral; and Outstanding Student in Environmental Studies - Jonathan Manning Steinmetz Firra.

The awards in the Division of Social Sciences included, Outstanding Student in Business Administration - Chenice Roker; Outstanding Student in Political Science - Paulina Lukini Magloire; Outstanding Student Communication Studies - Sarah Bureau; Robert Berry Fulton Award in Communication - Denzel Sequeira Chaves and Marie Chloe Vieux; The Doug and Patricia Laughter Student Award - Wyatt McCaghren; Outstanding Student in Elementary Education - Madison Butler; Outstanding Student in Physical Education - Lakyn Sanders; and Outstanding Student in Sociology - Madeline Mertin.

The University also announced the winners of the annual A.R.C.H. competition during the ceremony. In the category of Poster Presentations, Rayli Ruby took first, Victoria Lopez was second and Jackson Frederick was third. In the category of Multimedia Storytelling, Eber Martinez Renteral won first place and Mirian Miralda was second. In the category of Oral Presentations, Génesis Zamora was first, Cristhel Mejia was second and Felicite Bolden was third. In the category of Visual Arts Display, Xenia Lucia Munoz took first, Maria Valeria Estrada Cordero was second and Mirian Miralda was third.
