Director-General of European Affairs discusses with Director-General for Political Affairs, Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Croatia

On 3 May 2024, Mrs. Krongkanit Rakcharoen, Director-General of the Department of European Affairs, met with Mr. Petar Mehatov, Director-General for Political Affairs, Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Croatia, during the latter's visit to Thailand. H.E. Mr. Nebojša Koharović, Ambassador of Croatia to Thailand, with residence in Jakarta, also attended the meeting.

Both sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation, particularly through increasing high-level interactions and visits, fostering inter-parliamentary cooperation, promoting bilateral trade, investment, tourism, sports, defense industry, green transition, as well as facilitating visas between peoples of the two countries. They welcomed the plan to sign the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs to establish the Political Consultations to constructively promote closer engagement between Thailand and Croatia in the future.

In addition, both Directors-General exchanged views on regional and international issues, including the situations in Myanmar, Ukraine, the Middle East and the Indo-Pacific region. Both sides also expressed readiness to support each other and promote cooperation in the international fora where possible.

Thailand and Croatia established the diplomatic relations on 9 September 1992. Thailand was the first ASEAN country to recognize Croatia's independence on 2 May 1992.
