Grand Junction Elects Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem for 2024-25 Term

Each year city council elects these two positions from among their members.

Abe Herman was born and raised in Fort Collins, Colorado, and graduated from the University of Colorado in 2009 with a degree in Philosophy. He moved his home and business to Grand Junction and now owns and operates The Sukkah Project®, a small business based in Grand Junction that ships products to customers nationally and internationally.

Herman has volunteered with people experiencing homelessness and those with disabilities. He also sits on the board of Friends of Youth and Nature (FOYAN), with the goal of providing funding for activities that allow youth in underserved communities to learn and grow in the outdoors.

He enjoys mountain biking, skiing, rock climbing, reading, cooking, and spending time with his partner, Jordyn, and their three rescue mutts.

Randall Reitz will also serve a one-year term in his role as the new Mayor Pro Tem. He moved to Grand Junction in 2000, returning to his family's roots established when his grandfather worked here as a local civil engineer building bridges on the Grand Mesa.

Reitz moved to Grand Junction to complete a doctoral internship with Marillac Health and after six years moved to Frisco, Colorado as the CEO of Summit Community Care Clinic returning to Grand Junction in 2008 to join the faculty of the St. Mary's Family Medicine Residency.

Reitz holds a PhD from Brigham Young University in Marriage and Family Therapy with an emphasis in collaborative health care. He also has a Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Indiana State University and a Bachelor's Degree in Human Development from Brigham Young University.

He has served on several school-level and district-level leadership committees and on the boards of several non-profits and community consortia. He and his wife Ana are raising three children and enjoy camping and traveling together.
