Character and Citizenship Education Curriculum

Name and Constituency of Member of Parliament

Ms Nadia Ahmad Samdin, Ang Mo Kio GRC

Question

To ask the Minister for Education whether there are plans to deepen the Character and Citizenship Education curriculum in primary and secondary schools to encompass digital ethics and engagement in respectful and meaningful online civic discussions.

Response

  1. Since 2021, MOE has enhanced the Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) Curriculum to give a stronger focus to guide students' online learning and interactions. Through CCE lessons, primary school students learn to be discerning of what they read and share online, and to be respectful of one another, including of their privacy. Older students at the secondary and pre-university levels learn to engage in online discussions in a respectful and meaningful manner; and to value multiple perspectives.
  2. Beyond the CCE curriculum, MOE also engages parents to highlight the importance of guiding their children to have respectful online and offline discussions.
