Recruitment trends in 2022

This past year has been full of changes for all sectors, and recruiters have had to face the challenge of adapting quickly in an environment of constant change and evolution. In recent months, recruiters, and recruitment strategies, have had to adapt and be flexible with the change. At the beginning of 2021 it became clear that recruitment was changing quickly, with the appearance of remote work and the increase in skills shortages. Every year, Jobvite, a software company, surveys more than 800 recruiters to get to know the latest trends in talent acquisition, for their Recruiter Nation report. The 2021 survey showed how the drastic changes in the labour market are forcing recruiters to be more agile. Here, we'll teach you about the 5 recruitment trends that you should take note of for 2022.

1. The candidate-driven market

Currently, for the first time in a prolonged period, there are more jobs available than candidates. This means that many employers are looking for candidates with the same set of specific skills and talent, so candidates have much more decision-making power and influence over the selection process. They are able to negotiate more with respect to salary and benefits, and they also have more options available to them when looking for work. This new trend means that recruiters and talent acquisition teams have to work harder to stand out and attract the best talent. In 2022, we hope to see a more creative range of recruitment strategies, such as new sourcing tactics, data-based recruitment marketing, and highly disruptive employer brand communications.

2. More selective candidates

In this era of a candidate-driven market, the applicants can be much more selective about the jobs that they apply for, and the offers that they accept. In the coming year, employers are expected to receive a much lower volume of applications than perhaps they are used to. Candidates know that employers need the skills that they possess, and therefore, they are more likely to hold out for longer until they get an offer for a job that they really want; the power has shifted.

3. Remote recruitment processes

Another trend that already took off in 2021, and will continue to grow in 2022, is remote recruitment. During the pandemic, recruiters experienced, almost for the first time, remote recruitment on an unprecedented level. Now it is here to stay. In-person interviews are very time-consuming and costly. Recruiters are realising that virtual interviews and remote recruiting are much more effective for candidate selection. Remote recruitment also allows accesses to a wider talent pool, without geographic limitations.

4. Focus on talent retention

Employee attraction will be even more important in 2022, because companies are trying to retain the best talent. With so many employers competing for the same few candidates, employers have to focus on implementing things like benefits and improving company culture in order to retain the best talent. For companies that are trying to recruit, they need to focus even more on their employer brand and their people-focused strategies.

5. Improving recruiter efficiency with automation and AI

Despite the challenges of the last year that recruiters have had to face, they have also had to be agile, and adapt to changes in technology, in order to improve their efficiency. According to the 2021 Recruiter Nation Report, in order to compete for the best talent, an improvement in efficiency is the most important factor. Now more than ever, recruiters are using automation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in their recruitment processes. These tools can be used at every step of the recruitment process, in order to search for, select, schedule and chat with candidates. Automated text messages are ever more popular and, in fact, 60% of recruiters believe that text messages are an efficient way to attract and communicate with candidates.

In 2022, these 5 trends are going to be even more popular amongst recruiters, and in order to continue finding and retaining the best talent, recruiters will have to adapt, and follow these trends. There have been many changes in the last year, and with the increase in remote working, and skills shortages, finding new ways to attract talent has become more important than ever.
