Russian-speaking schoolchildren in 127 countries took part in Digital Lesson, an educational promotional event with the following theme - "AI in Education." Belarus, Germany, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Netherlands, Romania, the USA, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, and Sweden took the lead in terms of students who made use of the lesson materials.
Compared to last year, the lesson's international coverage has expanded from 86 countries to 127. This was facilitated by the active support of Rossotrudnichestvo and the involvement of Russian schools abroad.
"AI in Education" classes can be organized or taken on an individual basis after the end of the promotion. All the material will remain publicly available.
Yevgeny Primakov, head of the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo):
"This is not the first year that Rossotrudnichestvo has supported the Digital Lesson project. Through our Russian House network, schoolchildren all over the world meet specialists from top Russian IT companies and learn about cybersecurity and artificial intelligence, thereby improving their digital literacy. The agency will continue to provide assistance to the project by expanding the geographical presence of Russian-language schools."
Pyotr Polozhevets, executive director of Sberbank Charitable Foundation Investment to the Future:
"The interest that kids who live abroad show in our Digital Lessons proves once again that we were able to create entertaining educational content of high-quality. I think many of them learned from these classes that IT technology is rapidly developing in Russia, and data researchers are highly sought-after here."
Yulia Goryachkina, deputy director for personnel for the digital economy, Digital Economy:
"It is wonderful that today's technological world does not have borders when it comes to knowledge and learning, especially in such an important area as digital literacy. This is the third year in a row that Digital Lessons have been an international project, bringing together Russian-language kids all over the world, from Australia to Japan, thanks to the support of our colleagues from the Foreign Ministry and Rossotrudnichestvo. Classes using thematic simulators are held in the form of entertaining online games for three age groups: students in primary, middle, and high school, and we hope that our lessons not only help these students navigate the digital world, but also help them with the choice of their future career."
In classes in the framework of the project, students in grades one to 11 learn about the concept of artificial intelligence, its main principles, and opportunities to apply it at work, using the example of AI in teaching.
The students have access to a gaming simulator for the practical component of the class. They can use it to design a smart assistant for a math teacher, creating an algorithm that can detect handwritten text in notebooks, find mistakes, analyze them, and even give recommendations for teachers.
The project is being organized by Digital Economy, the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media and the Ministry of Education. The content and curriculum were developed by the project's strategic partner Sberbank Charitable Foundation Investment to the Future with support from Sber.
