Civilian initiatives to deliver aid to Gaza by sea

Initiatives promoted by individuals or groups to deliver aid by sea directly to the Gaza Strip, forcing the current naval blockade by Israel, are currently being reported. These initiatives are not coordinated with either UN agencies, Israel, the Italian government, or - to our knowledge - other governments and international organisations.

The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has no connection with these initiatives, nor is it involved in or supporting any fundraising in this regard.

Participation is totally discouraged, nor can direct assistance be guaranteed, since the approach to the war zone presents a real risk of involvement in military action.

The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs launched the 'Food for Gaza' initiative in coordination with FAO, the World Food Programme (WFP) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to bring aid to Gaza in concerted and protected manner.
